video/camera phones
I'm gonna sound really sad and techno-phobic, but, I'm not a fan of these camera and picture phones.
I remember seeing one at first and thinking, no way, what the f**k is next, your not even gonna be able to go out and get pissed, make a fool of yourself and someone is gonna have this on camera! What about the good old days when you'd go out get pissed, embarrass yourself and only listen to it the next day from your mates. Now the bloody things on record.
Have you noticed as well that everything, no matter how insignificant, is now deemed worthy of a picture. You must have one of those friends who is just addicted to taking pictures with their phone, 'right yea, deadly, get in I'll take a picture'. We're on a bus John, get over it, no need for a picture.
I have a great story about a guy who took a picture of a lad he hated in school whispering to a girl in a club, only whispering, but the picture looked like they were with each other, so he sent it to the guys girlfriend and she freaked and broke up with him. I still don't know if they got back together. Harsh but true. I was gonna say I wasn't bothered telling that story but I just have. Ah well.

It was either Noam Chomsky - or was it Summer from The OC? - who said that 'Picture phones are the autograph book of the new century'.
I'm ambivalent about them too but I have one semi-cool story involving one.
My birthday fell on a Friday in June this year. We were going to see U2 in Croke Park that night but the Thursday night we went out for a few drinks.
Anyhoo, we were walking down the quays when we saw Maura Tierney, who plays Abbey in 'ER', having a fag outside the Morrison.
We were tanked so the three of us went over and were talking away to her for ages. She was over for the concert too. I noticed that it was 12.05 and officially my birthday so when I said that to her, she gave me a kiss and I got a pic of it on my old phone. So I got my first 24th birthday kiss from a moderately famous person.
Come to think of it, that's not even semi-cool. Sorry.
